The Government of the District of Columbia was formed under the 1801 Organic Act and is operating under the Article 1, Section 8 of the USA constitution. The governance of the District of Columbia comprises of the Home Rule, Mayor, Secretary, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Attorney General, High Court, Supreme Court, Council (Legislative Body) and Advisory Neighborhood Commission. The Mayor is responsible for enforcing city laws and managing the city services like Police and Fire Department, Human Resources, Forensic Sciences, Employment Services, Small and Local Business Development, etc. The Mayor is also known as the head which oversees most of the public agencies, 21 departments, 5 regional bodies, public schools, community college, and about 69 legislative offices. Presently, the management of DC Government is functioning under the leadership of Mayor Ms. Muriel Bowser.
