About Defense Intelligence Agency
DIA’s history dates back to October 1, 1961, the day the Defense Intelligence Agency was created. This intelligence agency is owned by the Federal government of the United States and is directly authorized by the Department of Defense. The job of this national-level intelligence organization is to provide intelligence support to the nation’s military organizations and other defense policymakers so that the United States can be protected from terrorism. Under the administration of President John F. Kennedy, the agency was established by Mr. Robert McNamara, the eighth Secretary of Defense. There are currently more than 16 000 employees working for the DIA under the management of Director LTG Scott D. Berrier and Deputy Director Suzanne L. White. The headquarters of the DIA is located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C.
