Job Description:

Performs a full range of legal duties to support the Hearing Examiner in the management of all Exchange appeals and grievance cases. Acts in an independent capacity adhering to strict guidelines of the appeals process in unbiased and impartial legal case preparation and analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance with questions/inquiries regarding the appeals and grievance process to all levels of Exchange management, government agencies, attorneys, and other professional and/or third parties.
  • Writes and/or proofs preliminary drafts including motions, recommendations, briefs, appeals, exhibits, and declarations based on specific legal standards. Prepares response letters to all appeals, grievances, and other requests. Schedules and participates in pre-hearing conferences and assists hearing examiner in note taking to capture critical information.
  • Researches and analyzes applicable law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions, and legal codes. Evaluates and applies statutory requirements in regard to adverse actions, grievance, and administrative action appeals. Reviews, interprets, and summarizes final court transcripts to identify key elements of testimony and relevant facts utilizing knowledge of transcription indexing and referencing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Four years of experience as a paralegal in a law office. Must have knowledge of federal, state and military regulations, processes and procedures. Must be proficient in legal cite checking. Experience in predictive and persuasive legal analysis writing and possess stature in litigation, ethics and other areas of the law preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience as a paralegal in a law office. Must have knowledge of federal, state and military regulations, processes and procedures. Must be proficient in legal cite checking. Experience in predictive and persuasive legal analysis writing and possess stature in litigation, ethics and other areas of the law preferred. Paralegal certificate may be required within 180 days of placement with certain positions.
  • BACHELORS DEGREE – Preferred
