Job Description:

This is an Interdisciplinary position and may be filled by any of the following series: Architect 0808, Civil Engineer 0810, Mechanical Engineer 0830, General Engineer 0801, or Electrical Engineer 0850. This position is with USACE, Engineering and Construction Division, Tulsa OK.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains close contact with the design architects and engineers for purpose of ascertaining intent of design, suitability of materials and equipment, and furnishing advice as to data necessary for the preparation of specifications.
  • Performs technical review of project specifications developed by Architect-Engineer firms to remove improper for the project or insert items essential for the project to preclude issuing of voluminous specifications.
  • Makes field investigations as necessary to obtain information for the preparation of specifications for major alterations, construction or repair jobs.
  • Incumbent serves as principal specification team leader providing guidance and direction to design architect and engineers in preparation of specification for projects.
  • Develops, updates and improves specifications of local use based on USACE guide specifications.
  • Serves as specification engineer for the District, responsible for in-house design and AE contracted projects which involves specification writing and reviewing, recommending, and devising improved work procedures.
  • Researches and develops specifications for materials and methods where USACE guide specifications are not available.
  • Rendering advice and assistance to personnel of other sections on specification matters; developing, correcting, and finalizing project specifications.
  • Ensures inclusion of special provisions such as measurements and payments, environmental protection, special and miscellaneous requirements; determines that the style of writing and tone conform to requirements
  • Applies deep and diversified professional knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices related to the preparation of specifications.

Job Requirements:

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
