Job Description:
The successful candidate will be handling serious, controversial and complex legal matters of both a local and regional scope and will be providing legal guidance on innovative community projects and issues. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and skilled attorney to play a key role in providing important services for our City. The Assistant City Attorney will join the City’s collaborative legal team and will be under the general direction of the City Attorney.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare cases for administrative hearings and represent the City in such hearings
- Perform legal research and prepare opinions on various legal issues for the Water Department, other City departments, the City Council and various boards and commissions
- Confer with and render legal assistance to assist in establishing departmental policies, and develop and apply legal points and procedures
- Represent the City in civil actions brought by, or against, the City
- Review such documents and offer opinions as to their legal acceptability when presented to the City for consideration by an outside agency
Represent the City Attorney at Board of Public Utilities meetings and at various City Council, board and commission meetings and in court - Prepare and draft ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases and other legal documents and instruments
- Recommend changes in City policies and procedures in order to meet legal requirements
- Provide legal training to City employees and City Board and Commission members
Job Requirements:
