Job Description:

Performs skilled work in the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Assigned to Street Operations within Public Works.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs skilled maintenance, construction and repair work of City owned sidewalks, alleyways, roads and shoulders as directed.
  • Constructs and sets concrete forms, performs other concrete work consisting of excavation, grading, forming, placing, finishing cement sidewalks, driveways, curb & gutters, steps, floors and foundations.
  • Operates a variety of City vehicles in order to complete assignments in the field.
  • Operates a variety of medium to heavy duty equipment, including concrete mixer, concrete saw, concrete grinder, chop saws, skip loaders and other types of concrete finish tools.
  • Prepares reports outlining work performed, materials used and project costs.
  • Works and coordinates with contractors; reviews plans and specifications.
  • Performs inspections on new or revised storm water systems.
  • Coordinates with contractor(s) regarding storm water maintenance issues.
  • Fabricates, installs and maintains drainage grates and hand/guardrail infrastructure.
  • Performs the basic maintenance check of equipment; reports any mechanical or operational problems.
  • Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver’s license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
  • Must possess and maintain, throughout tenure, a valid, unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction at time of hire and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Job Qualification:

  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Five years of road construction or maintenance or related heavy equipment experience.
