Job Description:
Customer Care and Energy Solutions Division is recruiting for Senior Electric Service Representatives (Sr. ESR) to serve at the North and South Service Centers. The work of this position requires strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills. This position is responsible for providing on-site specialized technical advice and assistance to commercial customers for purposes of coordinating electrical service installations; interpreting and applying regulations for electric service installations; advising customers on service size, equipment configuration, point of service attachment, and route of service; advising commercial customers on electrical energy conservation requirements and resources; initiating electrical service installation orders; inspecting service installations and enforce compliance with city, state and federal codes and utility requirements for service connections; review and evaluate commercial electrical plans to ensure that such plans are consistent with power availability and electrical service code requirements; investigating electric service problems and inquiries, and participate in their resolution, coordinating with other staff as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides assistance to commercial customers regarding City Light policies, requirements, and rates when they request new or modified electrical service. Interprets codes and other requirements relating to electrical service installations; provides advice on service size, equipment configuration, point of service attachment, and route of service.
- Advises commercial customers regarding methods of conservation and directs customers to the appropriate unit within the Energy Solutions division for additional conservation advice and programs.
- Initiates and completes all necessary documents for the creation of accounts in City Light’s billing system.
- Coordinates City Light staff and resources to ensure that new or modified service will be provided to customers in a timely manner; communicates the status of the project to the customer.
- Conducts on-site inspections of new and modified electrical service to ensure safety and compliance with applicable requirements; reviews orders, determines what is needed for connection; maintains accurate and timely project notes; follows up to ensure compliance prior to connection of service.
- Receives and responds to electrical service complaints and inquiries, investigates / initiates action necessary for resolution, e.g. downed wires, trees, or problems concerning service entrance equipment and electrical meters; safety related issues to be coordinates with other divisions to correct problem.
- Reviews commercial customer electrical service plans to ensure plans are consistent with power availability and electrical service code requirements; in a timely manner, prepares written responses to customers regarding requirements or corrections.
- Initiates electrical service installation orders and contract applications for new or modified electrical services; calculates cost for service connection and determines utilization rates.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to work with others, i.e. coworkers, people from other work units, city departments, etc.
- Ability to learn and understand the Utility’s electrical distribution system and explain related technical information to customers.
- Technical background in an electrical or construction field.
- High level of customer service experience and problem-solving skills involving oral and/or written responses.
- Project management experience and organizational skills.
Job Qualification:
- Requires a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience in public relations and residential and commercial advisory work in the electrical power service field, at least one year equivalent to a City of Seattle Electrical Service Representative; two years of college coursework in electrical science, business administration, or related field may substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
- Five or more years of experience in public relations and/or residential and/or commercial advisory work in the electrical power service field.
- Prior experience managing multiple projects.
- Prior experience working in a diverse community/work environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use/learn complex utility computer systems.
- Experience in prioritizing work daily due to changes in customer & crew requests/availability.
