Responsible for all the equipment and compliance requirements for playgrounds in the City of Denton to assure safe and reliable playgrounds are provided to park users.

Essential Functions: Conducts detailed safety checks and inspections of existing playground equipment and protective surfaces in the City parks to ensure they are in compliance with departments standards, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, American Society for Testing and Materials, and American Disabilities Act guidelinesExamines plans and specifications for new playground installationsInspects new playground equipment installations and modifications to ensure contractor compliance with department standards, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, American Society for Testing and Materials, and ADA guidelinesWorks independently and conducts specialized playground equipment inspections and skilled labor tasks to maintain safety standards for equipment in the park systemRepairs playground equipment, components, and surfaces within scope of authority; replaces and adjusts worn and damaged mechanical parts and components; troubleshoots present potential problems; researches and orders parts and suppliesLeads field staff on playground modifications and major component replacementsPerforms skilled playground equipment maintenance; inspects, tests, adjusts, cleans, lubricates equipment and components; installs new playground equipmentDocuments inspections, repairs and maintains technical recordsPrepares surfaces and applies protective finishes as needed; sweeps and cleans playground facilities, removes graffiti, and cleans up hazards and vandalismOperates a variety of vehicles and specialized equipment to install playground equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems which require additional repairControls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating conditionEnters and maintains daily work tasks on the asset work management systemMaintains regular and punctual on-site attendanceAdditional Duties: Responds to after hour call outs for high water, storm damage and ice removal/controlRotates weekend duty trash route and high water on call throughout the yearPerforms other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: High School Diploma or GED equivalentTwo (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair of playgrounds and facilitiesCertified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification is requiredORAny combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the jobCore Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customersAbility to effectively utilize grounds and maintenance equipmentAbility to operate computer software and mobile devices to input daily work managementPreferences: Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishFive (5) years experience in Playground SafetyConditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” CDL driver’s license OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within nine (9) months of employmentMust pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification checkMust pass a physical examinationMust be able to work overtime when requestedMust attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employmentAbility to work in all kinds of weather
