Job Description:

This position is located in the Southeast Regional Office of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) covering 10 district offices located in the states of: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and the Carolinas. The employee will serve as the Deputy Director of Operations providing assistance, support, and guidance to the Regional and District Leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of integrated plans, local policies, strategies, guidelines, systems and procedures for Wage Hour program activities in the Region.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the overall impact and effectiveness of assigned Wage Hour programs in the region in meeting the needs of national program goals of the Wage and Hour Administrator.
  • Services as the principal point of contact and technical expert on Labor-Management Relations and Performance Management for the Region by providing advice and counsel to management throughout the region.
  • Guides and assists supervisors in developing and implementing informal counseling and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) according to established regulations and contractual responsibilities.
    Serves as the primary advisor to the Regional Administrator and labor liaison on all matters dealing with a broad range of labor-management relations
  • Assists in identifying and resolving Wage Hour District Offices operations problems in the programmatic, technical, and procedural areas.
  • Such problems include those stemming from contact, tensions, or conflicts with external and internal organizations.
  • Supervises the Back Wage Follow-Up System (BWFS) employees and directs a comprehensive review of ongoing financial systems such as Civil Money Penalty (CMP) system, BWFS, budget, procurement, personnel management, space, and IT within the region to ensure and enforce compliance by the 10 Wage and Hour District Offices with Wage Hour National Office and Regional Office policy, regulations and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations for changes to office staff and/or office closures/consolidations structure based upon needs and budgetary constraints.
  • Serves as the principal point of contact on personnel issues, recruitment, and performance standards.

  • Requires a Supervisory probationary period if not already met.
  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
