he Lead Process and Quality Engineer in the Renewable Energy Advanced Manufacturing organization will drive innovation in composite and additive manufacturing design for competitiveness in cost and performance, with specific focus on Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing. This individual will support the development of new manufacturing techniques and equipment solutions to support the deployment of additive and advanced manufacturing as well as corresponding quality and inspection requirements and techniques. The role will focus on developing and validating proprietary additive and composites processes and inspection methods and scaling them up in production once development is complete. In addition to the technical hands on aspects, the role will also involve project management, interaction with stakeholders and senior leaders, work with suppliers, and interaction with downstream customers. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop quality requirements and inspection methods/techniques for relevant additive and composites manufacturing processes.
    Develop new processes and support process industrialization and production cut-in.
    Support the effort to create standard and nonstandard inspection equipment/user requirement specifications to further drive additive deployment and standardization across Renewable Energy.
    Be a part of our New Product Introduction process to influence designs to incorporate design for additive standards so low cost / shorter lead time solutions are part of initial production release.
    Define process tolerances and develop repair methods in close collaboration with the process and design teams.
    Work with various sites to help identify high ROI applications, help test/validate/scale up the design, prove out of the application and support the local teams to deploy the additive process into production.
    Be accountable for the technical program’s success

Job Requirements:

  • Hands on experience in at least one additive manufacturing modality, preferably large scale polymer / composite
  • Experience with NDT inspection methods like ultrasonic testing.
  • Experience with a manufacturing environment and hands-on fabrication
  • Independently design and conduct material science experiments with additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Works independently and possesses a level of functional expertise necessary to influence and execute technical and project delivery execution
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures. Analysis results typically provided in an engineering report for use by external customers.
  • Prepare using Solidworks mechanical drawings, thermodynamic analysis, detailed drawings and assembly models complete with calculated dimensions and tolerances.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
