Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gain cooperation of taxpayers by explaining the best options available to resolve the problem or question, mutual interests, and to make sure they understand their responsibilities.
  • Interpret the law as it relates to the issues and if affects the performance and efficiency of the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Educate taxpayers on action(s) needed to achieve compliance with tax filing/liabilities.
  • Enter data into automated system to adjust tax, penalty, and/or credit adjustments.
  • Recognize indications of tax fraud; make determinations and use sound judgment concerning taxpayers’ data and responses.
  • Evaluate all available information and take corrective actions, such as credit transfers requests, re-computed tax, and/or penalty and interest.
  • Access relevant systems to view and/or update taxpayers’ accounts regarding payments received, review status of the case, and/or to make account adjustments.

Job Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement/enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. Federal agencies may request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.
  • If you are in a telework eligible position, you may be directed to temporarily telework on a full-time basis due to COVID 19. Employees must be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. Once normal operations resume, employees may be directed back to the office to perform the duties of their position. Telework eligibility does not guarantee telework; employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements and supervisor’s approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. As a reminder – If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. (Birth certificate showing birth in the U.S; Unexpired U.S. Passport;
  • Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization; or Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (Form FS-240))
  • Undergo an income tax verification and review of prior performance/conduct.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.
  • Applicants must have one of the following to qualify at this grade level: General experience and/or education equivalent to one (1) year or twelve months of general experience equal to the next lower grade (GS-03) in the Federal government. General experience – Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.
  • Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school).
  • Applicants must meet one of the following: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.
