Job Description:

The position is located in the Safety & Mission Assurance Office (Code 392) at Wallops Flight Facility. You will serve as as a software system resource for a range of inter-disciplinary aerospace engineering activities, with emphasis on ensuring safety. This involves supporting software safety authorities and performing activities across the lifecycle of software development. In this role, you will review and perform analysis reports and tests, as well as monitor contractors engaged in this work

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage with software safety engineering authorities in the planning and conducting of investigations, tests, and evaluation of equipment, components, or systems where critical problems need to be resolved, and existing methods are inadequate.
  • Work across a broad range of inter-disciplinary aerospace engineering development and design activities.
  • Serves as a resource for WFF launch analytical (simulation, modeling, and data processing) software system knowledge, with emphasis on ensuring safety.
  • Performs technical assessment of plans and procedures for problem resolution. Provides theoretical techniques, algorithms, and analysis to support engineering solutions and software development. Performs additional data systems and analysis work.
  • Reviews and performs software safety hazard analysis reports and associated test documentation.
  • Conceives, specifies, analyzes, plans, develops, modifies, installs, and tests safety critical software systems.
  • Performs software assurance, classification, monitoring activities, safety, reliability, quality assurance, risk management, development, design, test, evaluation, and audits of aerospace systems associated with ensuring the safety of flight projects
  • Initiates, plans, designs, and develops test methods, procedures, techniques, and requirements. Reviews and analyzes hardware, systems, and/or equipment testing operations. Participates in the test/evaluation of equipment, systems, or products.

Qualification & Experience:

  • In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
