The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for building relationships and trust with local communities in the Washington metropolitan area and engaging audiences that more accurately reflect and honor the make-up of the greater Washington regions and will work closely with the Head of Interpretation and Audience Research as well as Interpretation staff, Education staff, Curatorial staff, External Affairs and Public Programs staff to launch the Museum’s first dedicated community outreach and engagement initiative.
- Identify training opportunities to enhance internal staff competence and comfort with effective community engagement practices.
- Strengthen current alliances with civic and cultural organizations.
- Create a community engagement plan and operational strategy for developing and deepening relationships with underrepresented audiences, which aligns with departmental and organizational mission, values, priorities.
- Collaborate with the Interpretation team on interpretive planning for exhibition and collection installations, envisioning opportunities for community collaboration and co-creation.
