Job Description:

This position is located in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum (CHSDM) Exhibitions Department. The incumbent serves as the production manager, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the production of exhibitions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates and coordinates the comprehensive implementation of gallery changes and annual rotations of temporary exhibitions and facilitates the regular rotation of environmentally sensitive objects. As directed by the supervisor, creates design plans for other special projects in the galleries.
  • Schedules and coordinates all phases of exhibitions production and installation overseeing their timely schedule. Advises relevant staff and contractors on alternatives to design, schedules, or work structure that reduce project labor, time, and costs without sacrificing safety or aesthetic qualities of exhibitions in the landmarked building.
  • Produces construction, fabrication, and detail drawings for any changes to temporary exhibitions and permanent collection gallery spaces, as well as special projects elsewhere around the museum.
  • Utilizes Computer Aided Design system (CAD) to product floor plans, detail drawings, and construction plans for exhibition design, fabrication, and installation purposes.

Job Requirements:

Qualification & Experience:

  • Master’s or equivalent graduate degree.
  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • LL.B. or J.D., if related
