Job Description:

A Senior Category Management Advisor plans and manages all contract related activities and processes associated with the procurement of high-value/high-risk goods and services. This role reports to a Portfolio Manager, or in rare instances, to a Category Manager, and is responsible for supporting multiple Category Managers within the portfolio. This role collaborates with Business Unit managers and support staff, as well as cross-functional teams within Supply Management and throughout the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with multiple Category Managers within the Portfolio, and maximizes value-add by maintaining a Portfolio-level view. Participates on category management cross-functional teams, bringing knowledge of customer needs, supplier capabilities or performance, and performance improvement ideas.
  • Leads high-value/high-impact special projects as directed by the Portfolio Manager to identify and implement cost savings programs. Leads and participates in cross-functional teams to develop strategies to add value through Supply Management lead projects.
  • Meets with internal clients on a regular basis to understand client needs and to strengthen client relationships.
  • Maintains records to demonstrate that proper protocol was followed in the sourcing and contracting processes and in the implementation of the supplier relationship.
  • Trains clients in formal training settings and informally through ongoing contact in proper contract management and administration policies and procedures. Ensures client compliance with appropriate procurement policies and procedures, standards for ethical behavior, and accounting policies.
  • Maintains emphasis on reliable and efficient suppliers, lowest overall cost, optimum quality and availability, and significant contribution to the Supplier Diversity (WMDVBE) goals.
  • Helps train junior members of the Portfolio team in the appropriate processes and procedures utilized to perform the work. Mentors more junior members in approaches to client relationship building, Scope of Work development and other key skills.

Job Requirements:

  • Persuasive communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Mastery of the ability to advise on the development of a Scope of Work then subsequently develop and negotiate potentially complex and detailed contract terms including compensation that support the execution of the detailed scope.
  • Mastery of contracting and supply management principles
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel

Qualification & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or other related field
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience, preferably in a Category Management Advisor role, or other materials and/or services purchasing experience.
