Bioinformatics AMD Manager – Georgia Careers

Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Deputy Chief Information Officer – Enterprise Applications will provide leadership, project management and technical direction and assistance to the teams involved in the State’s digital transformation and be responsible for the ongoing support of the State’s enterprise applications. This role will also involve extensive program and operations management experience and building and maintaining agency and vendor partnerships. This role will have significant influence on what and how the agency delivers services and works with its customers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain quality assurance/control of NGS data generated by Georgia Public Health Laboratory to ensure reproducibility, sensibility and accuracy of the downstream bioinformatics analyses.
  • This includes the verification of the overall quality score of the sequencing reads, presence of adaptors, carry-over and contamination.
  • Participates in special project assignments.
  • Conduct bioinformatics analysis of NGS data using community-accepted or independently verified bioinformatics tools and development of pipelines for high throughput analysis.
  • Monitors various quality assurance indicators; determines reasons for unacceptable test and/or quality control results and corrects problems; refers unresolved problems to supervisor.
  • Uses established guidelines to perform complicated and/or advanced data analytics procedures.
  • Assists in developing procedures for a segment of the work of assigned laboratory, such as a segment of the quality assurance program.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Computer Science or Management Information Systems.
